The Church of St. Martin in the Wall

Kirche St. Martin in der Mauer
The old designation „in the Wall“ dates from the time when the church found itself in the town wall during the fortification of the Old Town. An originaly Romanesque building, pehaps dating from as early as the first half of the 12th century, it was rebuilt in Gothic style in the 14th and 15th centuries and reconstructed in 1905.
In 1414 the sacrament (communion) was applied in both manners for the first time in this church.
Buried in the former graveyard of the church was the famous Brokoff family of sculptors, a fact recalled by a memorial tablet by J. Mařatka on the nothern sideof the presbitery (Jan Brokoff, Michael Josef Brokoff, Ferdinand Maxmilian Brokoff).
After the abolischment of the church in 1785 its rich interior decoration was transfered to the Church of St. Wenceslav at Stará Boleslav.
The Curch serve as faculty church of Evangelical Theological Faculty of Charles University.		 Staré označení „ve zdi“ pochází z doby stavby prvního opevnění Prahy upro-střed 13. stol., kdy se část kostela stala současně součástí hradební zdi. Původně románská stavba, patrně již z 1. pol. 12. stol., ve 14. a 15. stol. goticky přestavována a v roce 1905 rekonstrována.
V tomto kostele byla v r. 1414 poprvé vysluhována svatá večeře Páně pod obojí způsobou - chléb a víno.
Na bývalém hřbitově obklopujícím ko-stel byli pohřbeni příslušníci slavného sochařského rodu Brokoffů, ca což upozorňuje pamětní deska s plaketou (autor J. Mařatka) umístěná na severní straně presbiteria (Jan Brokoff, Michal Josef Brokoff, Ferdinand Maxmilián Brokoff).
Nádherné vnitřní vybavení bylo po zru-šení kostela 1785 přeneseno do ko-stela sv. Václava ve Staré Boleslavi. Chrám slouží jako fakultní kostel Evangelické teologické fakulty Univerzity Karlovy.		 Die alte Bezeichnung „in der Mauer“ geht auf die Zeit zurück, als die Kirche tatsächlich in das Mauerwerk der Stadtbefestigung der Prager Altstadt einbezogen war.
Ursprünglich romanischer Bau, möglicherweise schon aus der ersten Hälfte des 12. Jahrhunderts, im 14. und 15. Jahrhundert gotisch umgebaut und im Jahre 1905 rekonstruiert.
In dieser Kirche wurde im Jahre 1414 zum erstenmal das heilige Abendmahl (Kommunion) unter beiderlei Gestalt - Brot und Wein - gereicht.
Auf dem ehemaligen Kirchhof wurden Mitglieder der berühmenten Bildhauerfamilie Brokoff beige-setzt, woran eine Gedenktafel mit Plakette von J. Mařatka an der Nordseite des Presbiteriums erinnert (Johannes Brokoff, Michael Josef Brokoff, Ferdinand Maxmilian Brokoff).
Die prunkvolle Innenausstattung wurde nach Aufhebung der Kirche im Jahre 1785 in die St. Wenzel-Kirche in Stará Boleslav überführt. Das alte Gotteshaus dient als Fakultätskirche der Evangelischen Theologischen Fakultät der Karlsuniversität.
